IMPORTANT! ************************************************************************************************************************************ The author takes no responsibility for you making your TV inoperable or any other fault that may arise by entering the servicemenu.* ************************************************************************************************************************************ Instructions: I have constructed geometry templates with AutoCAD from the official servicemanual for 42/51/57WH36P models of RPTV's from Toshiba. When you are in service menu and hit "7" on remote to enter the global convergency meny. In the menu you have the following objects: ***********Conver adjust menu************** * 1 ADJUST PAL 100Hz WIDE * * 2 PAL WIDE TO OTHERS * * 3 ADJUST PAL 100Hz S.LIVE * * 4 ADJUST PAL 100Hz CINEMA * * 5 ADJUST PAL 100Hz S.TITLE * * 6 ADJUST PAL PROGRESSIVE * * 7 ADJUST NTSC PROGRESSIVE * * ******************************************* Procedure to adjust geometry and convergency on Toshiba RPTV's: Menu "1" above is the global parameter for the master grid, you print the file "TOSHIBA_XXWH36P_PAL_GEOMTERY.pdf" where "XX" is your screen size You can print these files at your local printshop on either vellum, mylar, polyester. Tweak the GREEN grid in menu "1" to the above template by putting it on your screen with double sided 3M Scotch or similar that is easy to take off. The GREEN CRT gun is the default GUN which you adjust both the geometry and convergence to. Always adjust your geometry by tweaking the GREEN CRT gun, the GREEN CRT gun is placed between the RED and BLUE CRT gun. When you have adjusted the geometry grid for the GREEN CRT gun and gone thru the convergency adjustment by adjusting the RED CRT to the GREEN and then BLUE to GREEN you have created the defaultgrid which all others copies from. Exit menu "1" by pressing "-->" volume button on your remote. Exit the "Convergency Adjustment" menu above by pressing "7" on remote again, which exits and saves the adjustment you've made. Turn off TV. Wait 10 minutes to chill down the CRT guns, then turn it on again and let it run for an hour or two to make it warm and not drift. Enter the servicemenu again and then "CONVERGENCY ADJUSTMENT" menu by pressing "7" on remote. Check to see if menu "1" geometry looks ok according to the template you've printed. You might tweak the geometry and convergency a bit more at this time. If it's ok, exit menu "1" above by pressing "-->" volume button on your remote. Let me explain some short facts about menu "2", this menu copies all settings from menu "1" to all other menu's, eg "3,4,5,6,7". So it is really important that you get the geometry and convergence perfect when tweaking menu "1" with your template you've made. Now, let's goto menu "2" above by going down by pressing the remote's channel "down" button and then press "-->" volume button on your remote. When you hit the "-->" volume button, the TV is copying all settings from menu "1" to all other menu's as explained above(menu 3,4,5,6,7). It's doing an internal mathmetical calculation to create those geometry grids, it takes some time but don't get scared when you see the lines are twisting and goes in and out on your screen, it's just part of the calculation the TV is processing. When it's done it will go back to the "CONVERGENCY ADJUSTMENT" menu. Now, let's go in to all the different geometry grids and look for any misaligment of the geometry, go thru all menus from "3" to "6". If it looks straight and aligned you can proceed below. Exit the "Convergence adjustment menu" by pressing "7" on remote, turn off the TV!. If you have done it so far we only have menu "7" left which is the adjustment of the "NTSC PROGRESSIVE" screen. To be able to adjust this menu you need to have a NTSC signal into your TV, either by your DVD player or a satellite broadcast. Now turn you TV on and enter the "NTSC PROGRESSIVE" menu in "CONVERGENCY ADJUSTMENT" menu. Turn on the GREEN CRT gun only and turn BLUE, RED off. Does the grid look straight and aligned? If it is alright you can exit the menu, your geometry is tweaked now. If it doesn't look straight and aligned you need to print the file named "TOSHIBA_XXWH36P_NTSC_GEOMETRY.pdf" for your size of screen at your local printshop and then use this template when you adjust the geometry. Put the template on your screen and align it to your screen. Now by only having the GREEN CRT gun on and the rest off you adjust the grid to the template as best as you can, then you tweak the convergency for each color, RED to GREEN and finally BLUE to GREEN. Exit by pressing "--->" volume button on the remote. Turn it off. This short MINI HOW-TO document shows the correct procedure to tweak your geometry.
